This weekend I reunited with director Nick Scown, for whom I shot the feature film "Love, Gloria" a few years back. "Ill Conceived" is a powerful short film about an adopted man searching for his birth mother only to find out way more than he's bargained for in the process.
Produced by fellow University of Miami alum, Brian Cavallero, and lit with the help of my amazing chief lighting technician, Shawn Anderson, this project was an exercise in amplifying natural light and supplementing it with soft sources.
I paired the Arri Amira with the Fujinon Cabrio 19-90mm zoom for a great result. I love how versatile the Cabrio can be when you have to move quickly in and out of set-ups.
This film is definitely an actor's piece so I really focused on my compositions reflecting the angst and conflict delivered in the dialogue and performances. We were privileged to have industry veterans Ethan Embry (That Thing You Do and Grace and Frankie) and Romy Rosemont (Glee and Silicon Valley) on board in our lead roles.
I can't wait to see how this edit comes together...
